Visitor Waiver and Release

Utah Refugee Goats · 6664 W 1400 N, Salt Lake City, Utah 84116 · Terms version VW-2026.10

1. What this waiver covers

  • This waiver covers visits to the farm of Utah Refugee Goats (URG), tours, goat rentals and community events with URG animals, for 12 months from the date signed.
  • Each adult signs for themselves. A parent or legal guardian lists and signs for participants under 18.

2. Notice under Utah law — inherent risks of livestock activities Initials required

  • Under Utah Code Title 78B, Chapter 4, Part 2 (Limitations on Liability for Equine and Livestock Activities), "inherent risk" with regard to equine or livestock activities means those dangers or conditions which are an integral part of equine or livestock activities, which may include: (a) the propensity of the animal to behave in ways that may result in injury, harm, or death to persons on or around them; (b) the unpredictability of the animal's reaction to outside stimulation such as sounds, sudden movement, and unfamiliar objects, persons, or other animals; (c) collisions with other animals or objects; or (d) the potential of a participant to act in a negligent manner that may contribute to injury to the participant or others, such as failing to maintain control over the animal or not acting within his or her ability.
  • UTAH REFUGEE GOATS IS NOT LIABLE FOR INJURY TO OR THE DEATH OF A PARTICIPANT RESULTING FROM THE INHERENT RISKS OF LIVESTOCK ACTIVITIES, EXCEPT AS PROVIDED BY UTAH LAW.

3. Health and safety rules

  • Follow staff instructions and posted rules. Stay in visitor areas, keep gates closed, and feed animals only food provided by URG when staff say so.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes. No running, chasing animals or climbing on fences and equipment. No pets, smoking, vaping or alcohol near the animals.
  • Animals can carry germs (such as E. coli and Salmonella) that make people sick. Wash hands with soap and water after touching animals and before eating. Children under 5, pregnant people, older adults and people with weakened immune systems should take extra care.
  • Anyone who has been on another livestock farm in the last 48 hours should wear clean clothes and shoes.

4. Assumption of risk and release (adults) Initials required

  • An adult signer who takes part understands that being around goats and other animals involves inherent risks, including bites, kicks, head-butts, scratches, being knocked over, uneven ground, trips and falls, allergies and illness spread by animals.
  • An adult signer who takes part voluntarily assumes those risks and releases URG, its staff, volunteers, board members, affiliates and partners from liability for the signer's own injuries, damages and losses arising from ordinary farm and livestock activities, to the extent allowed by law.
  • This release does not cover injury caused by URG's gross negligence or intentional misconduct, or any claim that Utah law does not allow to be released.
  • URG staff may give basic first aid and call emergency services. URG does not provide medical insurance for visitors.

5. Participants under 18 Initials required

  • If participants under 18 are listed, the signer states that they are each minor's parent or legal guardian, has read the risk notice above for them, and will make sure each minor follows the rules and is supervised by an adult at all times.
  • The signer authorizes URG staff to give first aid to each listed minor and to call emergency services if the signer cannot be reached.
  • Nothing in this document releases, waives or limits any claim belonging to a minor, and the signer does not agree to indemnify Utah Refugee Goats (URG) for any minor's claim.

6. Electronic signature and records

  • The signer agrees to sign and receive this document electronically under the Utah Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (Utah Code Title 46, Chapter 4) and the federal E-SIGN Act. A typed name, typed initials and any drawn signature have the same effect as handwritten ones.
  • URG records the date, time, IP address, browser, email address and a SHA-256 fingerprint of the exact document signed, and emails the signer a copy. A paper copy is free on request from contact@refugeegoats.org or 801-613-7647.
  • This document is governed by Utah law. If part of it is unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
